Rostec launched equipment for forecasting emergency situations into Earth's orbit

CrimeaPRESS reports:

An onboard infrared Fourier spectrometer for remote sensing of the Earth, created by the specialists of the Shvabe holding of the Rostec State Corporation together with scientists from the Moscow State Technical University. N.E. Bauman and Research Center named after M.V. Keldysh, launched into orbit as part of the Meteor-M meteorological satellite. The device monitors the state of the planet’s atmosphere and helps predict natural disasters. The device IKFS-2 measures the outgoing thermal radiation of the Earth’s surface. The data collected by the device contains not only meteorological information, but also information about the composition of the atmosphere. Even today, IRFS-2 helps to improve the accuracy of measurements in meteorology, ecology, climatology and other branches of science.

The Fourier spectrometer, launched into orbit as a meteorological satellite, monitors changes in pressure, temperature, humidity, and controls the concentration of gases in the troposphere. This allows meteorologists to more accurately predict weather changes, including extremes. In practice, this will help save human lives — prepare warnings in advance of impending hurricanes, tsunamis, tornadoes and other natural anomalies— says Oleg Yevtushenko, Executive Director of Rostec.

The creation of IKFS-2 was carried out by employees of the Krasnogorsk plant named after. S.A. Zvereva (KMZ, part of Shvabe) together with specialists from the Research Institute of Informatics and Control Systems of the Moscow State Technical University. N.E. Bauman and the State Scientific Center of the Russian Federation “Research Center named after M.V. Keldysh».

A similar device, created at our enterprise, helped to monitor the infrared spectra of the Earth’s surface and atmosphere over the past eight years. He exceeded his expected service life by three years. Based on the results of the flight test, our specialists finalized the spectrometer and released its modified version with advanced features. I am sure that this time the device will show the best results.— said Alexander Novikov, General Director of KMZ.

Krasnogorsk plant them. S.A. Zvereva is one of the leading enterprises in Russia in the field of optical and optoelectronic instrumentation. KMZ develops, tests and mass-produces devices for various purposes and a wide range of applications.

The Shvabe holding is part of the Rostec State Corporation and unites several dozen industrial facilities and research centers in 10 cities of Russia — today it is the core of the country’s optical industry. The Holding implements the entire cycle of creating high-tech optoelectronic equipment in the interests of civilian industries, state and public security. At the end of 2022, the portfolio of intellectual property objects of the Holding amounted to about 2600 units, the range of products — over six thousand items. Shvabe enterprises develop and mass-produce medical equipment, energy-saving lighting equipment, optical materials and scientific instruments. To date, hundreds of thousands of units of lighting equipment and tens of thousands of units of Shvabe medical equipment have been installed on the territory of the Russian Federation — these products operate in almost every city in the country. The geography of deliveries covers all regions of Russia and several dozen countries of the world.

Rostec State Corporation is the largest machine-building company in Russia. It unites over 800 scientific and industrial organizations in 60 regions of the country. The company is a key supplier of weapons, military and special equipment under the state defense order. It develops high-tech civilian production in strategically important sectors for the country, such as aircraft manufacturing, engine building, transport and power engineering, medical instrumentation, pharmaceuticals, new materials, etc. Consolidated revenue in 2022 exceeded 2.1 trillion rubles, the share of civilian products was 44.5%.
