In the capital of Cyprus, Larnaca, on October 9-14, the World Sambo Championship was held among athletes of three age categories — boys and girls under 16 and under 18 years old, as well as juniors and junior women under 20 years old.

A total of 575 athletes from 33 countries took part in the competition. A total of 55 sets of awards were raffled off. The Russian team excelled in the team competition, winning 52 medals – 44 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze. In the weight category up to 98 kg among juniors, the bronze medalist of the championship was a student of the MBU DO “Martial Arts Sports School”, Master of Sports of Russia Ruslan Somenko from Simferopol (trains under the guidance of his father Roman Somenko).
