The round table was held as part of the work of the expert council under the deputy chairman of the State Duma, Alexander Babakov, who oversees Russian-African relations. The result of the meeting It was the adoption of a number of recommendations for federal and regional authorities, business structures, corporations and media communities, writes ProneDra.ru.
Africa remains one of the most promising regions in terms of mining. Significant world reserves of rare -earth metals and strategic raw materials are concentrated in the bowels of the continent:
- 86% of global resources of chrome ores,
- 71% platinoids,
- 68% of diamonds,
- 54% of phosphate ores,
- 44% cobalt,
- 40% bauxite,
- 34% of manganese ores,
- 23% uranium,
- 22% of iron ores,
- 18% titanium,
- 16% lithium,
- 15% gold.
This impressive list makes Africa a strategically important partner for Russia, especially in the conditions of geopolitical restrictions on the supply of a number of resources from other regions.
Modern challenges of the global economy, including the transition to a new technological way, led to an increased interest in Africa mineral resources. Although the continent is yet inferior to other regions in terms of industrial production, its role in global production is growing steadily. Today, Africa has to:
-
82% of the global production of platinum,
-
72% cobalt and tantala,
-
60% manganese ore.
A significant share is also made up of titanium, bauxites, phosphates, gold and uranium. Moreover, many of these deposits were opened in the Soviet years, when the geologists of the USSR made a huge contribution to the study of African mineral potential.
In recent years, Russian business has been increasing interest in mining projects in Africa. An example is the agreements reached during the first ministerial conference of the Russia -Africa Partnership forum, which took place in Sochi in November 2024. Then Russian companies entered into a number of agreements on the joint development of deposits in Zimbabva, Sudan, Guinea and other countries.
At the same time, Western countries continue to control a significant part of the information field associated with the prey of minerals in Africa. This creates barriers to Russian companies that are faced with competition not only in the resource market, but also in the field of international influence.
Active participation in the exploration, mining and processing of minerals on the African continent can become an important factor in strengthening the Russian-African partnership. In addition to obvious economic benefits, this will allow Moscow:
-
expand your influence in the global market of strategic raw materials,
-
diversify the supply of rare earth metals,
-
To strengthen positions in new technological industries depending on the extraction of mineral resources.
Russia considers Africa as a strategic partner, and the development of cooperation in the field of mineral mining is an important step towards strengthening bilateral relations. In conditions of global competition for resources, the timely entry of Russian companies into the African market can play a key role in the formation of new geo -economic reality.
