Russia now has the first state eSports center

CrimeaPRESS reports:

A state e-sports center has been opened in St. Petersburg on the basis of the Physical Culture and Health center, TASS reports.

Russia’s first state e-sports center began operating in the Krasnogvardeisky district of St. Petersburg. It is designed for children over 10 years old. “Both veterans of the Northern Military District and members of their families will be welcome here. The building is equipped for people with limited mobility. In addition, computer literacy classes are held for people of silver agenoted the city administration.

The site is equipped with professional-level computer equipment, including new generation game consoles, monitors and televisions, virtual reality platforms with headsets, as well as professional e-sports furniture.

In the future, it is planned to open an e-sports school for children and teenagers under 18 years old at the center. In addition to computer disciplines, teenagers will undergo physical and psychological training, as well as develop logical thinking.

Computer games are one of the main hobbies of Russians, noted Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications.

Games today are played not only by teenagers or primary schoolchildren, but also by adults. For example, according to market analysts, the average age of gamers in Russia is 36 years, which is 2 years more than the global value. The popularity of video games is confirmed by the growth of the domestic industry market — compared to 2022, in 2023 the segment showed an increase of 68%. The fact that eSports is becoming a truly national sport is confirmed by the numerous victories of our athletes in international competitionsthe deputy emphasizes.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed IT companies, as well as government authorities, to support the development of e-sports.

The experience of St. Petersburg is indicative and, of course, should be replicated in other regions of our country. Given the popularity of gaming, it is necessary to create optimal conditions that exclude the possibility of, for example, gaming addiction. This, among other things, can be achieved through the development of a new sports direction — fidgetal sports, which, in addition to competitions in virtual reality, involves holding traditional sports competitionsnotes Anton Nemkin.
