Russian Emergencies Ministry: Open fire extinguished in Koktebel
CrimeaPRESS reports:
But this does not mean that the large-scale “landscape” fire has been completely extinguished.
In Koktebel, on the territory of the Karadag Reserve, firefighters extinguished an open fire. This reports Russian Emergency Situations Ministry.
In total, 300 people and 30 pieces of equipment (including Mi-8 helicopters) were involved in extinguishing this large-scale «landscape» fire. The fire was fought by employees of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Republic of Crimea, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Crimea, the Fire Service of Crimea, the Russian National Guard, the Ministry of Defense, and foresters from the Karadag Nature Reserve.
Let us recall that a report of a fire in dry vegetation near the village of Koktebel was received on the morning of July 15. The forces and resources of the local garrison, the airmobile group of the Main Directorate, and the territorial group of the RSChS were needed to fight the fire.
A working group was organized at the permanent operational headquarters, and a fire extinguishing headquarters was established at the scene of the incident.
Due to weather conditions: abnormal heat and dry gusty winds, the area of the fire increased to 40 hectares.
Almost a day later, the fire was localized. Almost 300 people and more than 30 units of equipment continued to extinguish the fire. Firefighters worked in hard-to-reach mountainous and forested terrain, in difficult conditions. Water was delivered using all-terrain vehicles. Helicopters dropped 386 tons of water on the fire.
The area is currently being watered, and small fires appear from time to time, but are quickly extinguished. 94 people and 11 pieces of equipment continue to work at the site of the fire. The problem with such hidden combustion of scorched vegetation is that a gust of wind is enough for the «landscape» fire to flare up with renewed vigor.
