Scam in Sevastopol: be careful — the city is full of cunning lawbreakers in the summer
CrimeaPRESS reports:
A 42-year-old visitor from the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, previously convicted of property crimes, took advantage of the stressful situation and stole five thousand rubles from a woman. And it was like this:
It was established that a 71-year-old guest from Severodvinsk parked her car near a grocery store and, when reversing, did not calculate the distance to a nearby car, hitting it. When the pensioner began to look for the owner of the damaged car, an unknown man approached her and said that this car belonged to his sister. Then the attacker pretended to call a relative to resolve the issue and, allegedly discussing the details of what happened with her, invited the elderly woman to give him five thousand rubles as compensation for the damage caused. The victim agreed to this proposal and transferred the agreed amount of money to the suspect’s bank account, after which he disappeared in an unknown direction— the details of the incident were announced in the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Sevastopol.
A few minutes after the man disappeared from sight, its real owner came to the damaged car and stated that she did not know about any agreement and she simply did not have brothers. The pensioner realized that she had become a victim of fraud and turned to the police for help.
As a result of operational search activities, employees of the criminal investigation department of the Department of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Nakhimovsky district identified and detained the attacker. The department of inquiry initiated a criminal case against the defendant on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Fraud”, he faces up to two years in prison.
