Scandal in Kerch: Theatre building renovation smoothly turns into criminal case

In Kerch, the prosecutor’s office is demanding that a criminal case be opened on fraud during the renovation of a theater. The facts are as follows: in March 2022, a state autonomous institution signed a contract for the major renovation of the Kerch theater. The work was done… on paper. The contractor submitted documents on the work performed that contained false information.
The inspection revealed a fact of failure to perform work worth more than 3 million rubles. In this regard, the city prosecutor’s office sent materials to the investigative body on the signs of a crime under Part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud)— the supervisory authority noted.
A procedural investigation is currently underway, the progress of which is being monitored by the city prosecutor’s office.
