Scandal in Sevastopol: former police officers will appear before the court — they “squeezed out” apartments from the elderly and lonely

In Sevastopol, a criminal investigation was completed on charges of members of an organized criminal group — two former employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol and a local resident, who committed fraud on an especially large scale, which resulted in the deprivation of citizens’ rights to real estate, as well as attempted fraud (part 3 of Art. 30, part 4 of article 14 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code RF).

The investigation established that in the summer 2019 of the year, former police officers created an organized group to commit a number of serious crimes related to the acquisition by fraudulent means and by abuse of trust of the right to someone else’s property of lonely elderly people, including those suffering from mental illness .

During the period 2019-2020 y.y. the malefactors, in complicity with two local residents, developed a criminal plan for the illegal appropriation of citizens’ property and distributed roles among themselves. Former police officers, using their official position, collected information about lonely people who did not understand the nature of the crimes committed against them. The rest of the accomplices «processed» elderly citizens, misled them to obtain a power of attorney, after which they sold their real estate, were engaged in the procedure for state registration of property rights to new owners , — reported in the Investigative Committee.

The victims of the accomplices were five elderly men and women, from whose property their property was fraudulently taken — apartments and land for a total amount of more than 14 million rubles, which caused damage to them in particular large size.

During the preliminary investigation, the stolen property, as well as the property of one of the accused, was seized.

The activities of this organized group were suppressed by the joint efforts of employees of the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, the UFSB Service of Russia for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol and the ORC SB of the Internal Affairs Directorate for the city of Sevastopol when another crime was committed.

The investigators of the Department for the Investigation of Particularly Important Cases, in cooperation with the operational services, carried out a thorough work to collect the evidence base. As part of the investigation, all the necessary investigative actions, lengthy examinations, interrogations of witnesses and victims were carried out, the Investigative Committee noted.

The criminal case against one of the accomplices, who actively contributed to the investigation, was sent to the court for consideration on the merits in August this year.

The investigation of the criminal case against the rest of the accomplices has now been completed, the materials have been sent to the prosecutor’s office for study, signing the indictment and further sending the case to court for consideration on the merits.
