School holidays: Sevastopol police appeal to parents of minors

CrimeaPRESS reports:

During the holiday period, schoolchildren have more free time. At the same time, some teenagers, while on vacation, spend their leisure time in an inappropriate manner, conflicting with the law and committing offenses. In order to prevent teenage crime during the autumn holidays, the Sevastopol police urge parents to increase control over the pastime and behavior of minors.

Often, a condition conducive to the commission of an unlawful act is darkness. To prevent your child from becoming a victim of crime or being involved in illegal activities, do not let him go out at night without adult family members. Remember that in accordance with Part 3 of Art. 3 of the Law of the city of Sevastopol dated July 25, 2014 N 51-ZS “On measures to prevent neglect and delinquency of minors in the city of Sevastopol,” parents are obliged not to allow teenagers aged 14 to 18 to go outside without their own accompaniment or the accompaniment of relatives or responsible persons years from 22.00 to 06.00, minors aged 8 to 14 years — from 21.00 to 06.00, children under 8 years — around the clock.

Remind your child about the inadmissibility of consuming alcoholic beverages, drugs and intoxicants, and the prohibition of smoking. Also explain to children that insulting peers and teachers on social networks (cyberbullying) can lead to problems with the law.

Please note that previously there have been cases of minors being involved in the theft of property of older citizens through the implementation of the fraudulent scheme “Your relative was involved in an accident,” as well as in the sale of drugs. Criminals used children as criminal couriers to obtain funds from victims of fraud (for their subsequent transfer to the curators of criminal activities) or to distribute doses of prohibited substances and create hiding places.

In addition, it is possible to incite teenagers to commit crimes of a terrorist nature. Having met a minor through online correspondence, criminals may resort to threats, blackmail or promises of easy money to induce him to commit arson or make telephone calls to emergency services with a deliberately false report about the mining of administrative buildings. Signs of a teenager’s participation in the criminal acts described above may be the appearance of funds in an amount significantly exceeding the money given for “pocket” expenses, the manifestation of anxiety, restlessness, and abandonment of past hobbies. Having discovered suspicious behavior of a minor, you should have a confidential conversation with him and pay attention to his correspondence in instant messengers.

If you become aware that your child is involved in committing a crime, you must immediately contact the nearest territorial internal affairs agency or call 102.
