September 12 is the Day of the Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky. Are we going to collect medicinal herbs and roots?
CrimeaPRESS reports:
On September 12, our ancestors organized rich feasts. Therefore, the peasants called this day Alexander Sytnik. As a rule, barley porridge was prepared with milk, and bread baked from grain from the new harvest was also served. They performed a special ritual, which, according to signs, guaranteed a fertile year. To do this, barley stalks were curled into one braid along with flax and oat stalks.
On September 12, the healers collected medicinal roots, dried them and charmed them. Ordinary people continued to collect cranberries and store them for the winter.
And the church today honors the memory of the holy noble prince Alexander Nevsky. He was considered the protector of the Russian land, and the battles in which he won — the Battle of the Neva and the Battle of the Ice — will forever remain in the memory of his descendants. All these events took place in the 15th century, but the history of this holiday itself begins in the 17th century, when Peter the Great decided to conclude a truce with the Swedes, and in honor of this event he ordered the relics of Prince Alexander to be transported from Vladimir to St. Petersburg, which was rebuilt quite recently. Peter believed that this relic would protect the new capital from enemies in the future. In 1723, the relics of Alexander were brought from Vladimir and were kept on the territory of Shlisselburg for a whole year until they found their refuge in the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, where they were kept in the Trinity Cathedral.

- Warm evening — for the winter crop harvest.
- A strong starfall means famine, crop failure and epidemics.
- You cannot greet the first guest in the house today — it means bad luck.
- Sitting down at a card table means being a loser all year.

- Putting up a fence means thieves.
- You can’t count change until noon — there won’t be any big money.
- You can’t wash your hair either — you’ll go bald early.
- To waste time is to live empty all year.
- Revenge committed on this day will definitely return as a boomerang.
- A neighbor came to borrow salt — not good. He needs to add salt, but be careful in future!
