Sergei Aksyonov: “The Feast of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a Russian holiday; it is not on the calendars of other Churches”

Congratulations to Orthodox Christians on the Feast of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos!

This is one of the most revered church holidays in Rus’. It was installed in honor of the memory of the miraculous salvation of Constantinople from the invasion of enemies, when the Mother of God protected the city with her Protection.

At the same time, according to our Patriarch, Intercession is a Russian holiday; it is not on the calendars of other Churches. And this is no coincidence, because the entire history of Russia is connected with the miracles of the Mother of God. It is with Her help and intercession that our people have always associated their victories. So it was, and so it will be if we maintain the Orthodox faith.

The Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Nizhnyaya Oreanda on the southern coast of Crimea is one of the most famous and beautiful on the peninsula. It was built in 1885. Members of the Romanov imperial family prayed here, and the holy righteous John of Kronstadt served here. The temple is decorated with unique mosaics by the famous Italian master Antonio Salviati.
