Sergey Aksyonov: «Having devoted his life to the defense of the Motherland, Amet-Khan Sultan became the legend of domestic aviation»
Krympress reports:
Commentary of the Head of the Republic of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov in connection with the day of memory of the military pilot Asa, twice Hero of the Soviet Union Amet-Khan Sultan.
Everything in it is unusually expressively and picturesque: voice, face, gestures and even his cavalry gallife, very wide at the top and covered on caviar, tucked in black boots made of soft leather. His name is extremely popular in the Soviet Union. You can listen to stories about his many exploits for weeks … «
So wrote Francois de Joffr, who fought with the Nazis as part of the French Aviation Regiment “Normandy-Neman”, about one of the most famous Soviet pilots, his friend Amet-Khan Sultan.
Twice the Hero of the Soviet Union Amet-Khan Sultan went down in history as an outstanding ace. During the Great Patriotic War, he made more than 600 sorties, personally shot down 30 enemy aircraft and 19 more as part of the group.
Our fellow countryman became the legend of domestic aviation. He devoted his life to the protection of his homeland. The hero died on February 1, 1971 during the next flight tests. He was 50 years old.
We remember Amet Khan Sultan-a brave warrior, a patriot of his country, a courageous, brave, strong spirit of a person.
Eternal glory and eternal memory to our hero! — says in the commentary of the head of Crimea.
