Sevastopol hosts Russian checkers tournament. Dedicated to Navy Day
CrimeaPRESS reports:
From July 20 to 28, Sevastopol is hosting an annual open tournament in Russian checkers, which is traditionally dedicated to the upcoming Navy Day.
The competition is organized by the Sevastopol Checkers Federation together with the Small Academy of Sciences. The tournament is held in three disciplines: classic checkers, rapid — a fast game and blitz — a lightning game. More than 40 athletes of different ages participate in the tournament.
A special category of participants are the Manovtsy, who sometimes compete against titled checkers players with solid experience. According to the director of the Sevastopol Small Academy of Sciences, Sergey Pasein, at least half of the tournament participants are his students. Among the participants is the rising sports star Nikolay Krasnov. The boy is still in kindergarten, but already has a sports chess category. Another promising participant is Zlata Malovichko. Both young checkers players have already won gold medals at the Championship of the Southern and North Caucasian Federal Districts in Russian checkers.
The competitions are taking place at the MAN site, where the awards ceremony and closing ceremony of the competitions will also take place on July 28.
