Sevastopol Marine Aquarium Museum: the collection will be replenished with new specimens

CrimeaPRESS reports:

The Sevastopol Marine Aquarium Museum, where about 700-800 animals died after the flooding of one of the halls during the November storm, will restore and increase its collection by 17% this year. The aquarium plans to allocate 10 million rubles from its own funds for this, it said TASS Director of the aquarium Yuri Kravtsov.

We want to increase the collection in 2024, we had three thousand, we want to increase it to 3.5 thousand using our own resources. We work with two enterprises in Moscow and buy animals from them. Our third hall was damaged, and the third hall is the tropics, freshwater of five continents. And what types they will offer, we will then purchase from them and add to the collection. We plan about 10 million rubles for thissaid the director of the aquarium, Yu. Kravtsov.

Earlier it was reported that the Evpatoria Aquarium donated 150 cichlids to the Sevastopol Marine Aquarium-Museum, which suffered during the devastating November storm, and the Moskvarium Center for Oceanography and Marine Biology — over 200 fish of eight species. Currently, according to the director, the animals are in the laboratory where they are being raised, and their release will begin next week.

The Sevastopol Aquarium Museum is one of the oldest public aquariums in Europe and is the first marine aquarium of the Russian Empire. It was founded in 1897 at the Sevastopol Biological Station.
