Sevastopol Opera and Ballet Theater presents a gala concert dedicated to the 240th anniversary of the city

The Sevastopol Opera and Ballet Theater will open the Khersones International Opera and Ballet Festival this year with two Ballet Gala Concerts. The events will be held on July 26 and 27 and will be dedicated to the 240th anniversary of the Hero City.

Leading soloists of the main Russian theaters — Bolshoi, Mariinsky, MAMT im. K. S. Stanislavsky and Vl. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko, NOVAT and foreign guests: Sergey Polunin, Ksenia Ryzhkova, Jonah Cook, Maria Shirinkina, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Vladimir Shklyarov, Honored Artist of Russia Evgenia Obraztsova, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Semen Chudin, Olga Marchenkova, Klim Efimov, Priska Zeizel, Dmitry Sobolevsky, Valeria Mukhanova, Artur Mkrtchyan, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Olga Grishenkova, Roman Polkovnikov.

As part of the gala concert, there will be a world premiere of two numbers staged by the English choreographer, ballet soloist John Cooke, created specifically for the Sevastopol Opera and Ballet Theatre. A choreographic production of «Nothing to Lose» to the music of contemporary composers will be presented. And the final accent will be the one-act ballet “Rakhmaninov. In memory” to the music of Sergei Rachmaninov, whose 150th anniversary is celebrated this year all over the world.

The musical accompaniment of the concert will be provided by the Crimean Academic Symphony Orchestra with the participation of artists of the orchestra of the Bolshoi Theater of Russia. At the conductor’s stand is Anton Grishanin, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, laureate of the Russian Government Prize, conductor of the Bolshoi Theater.

Recall that the Sevastopol State Opera and Ballet Theater was established by order of the Government of the Russian Federation in pursuance of the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation. It is part of one of the four federal cultural and educational complexes. The place for the construction of the theater in Sevastopol was the site between Artilleriyskaya and Karantinnaya bays, from where a picturesque view of the sea opens. The main stage of the theater is designed for 1,100 seats, the small one — for 200.
