Sevastopol police: scammers all around! Don't trust anyone
CrimeaPRESS reports:
In Sevastopol, fraudulent actions committed remotely continue to be registered. In most cases, criminals act under the guise of bank employees, law enforcement officers, intelligence officers or government services portals.
By calling a potential victim and often using the logo of a bank or government agency, as well as addressing the citizen by name and patronymic, the attackers introduce themselves as representatives of these organizations and report various troubles that threaten major property damage or criminal liability. Wanting to create a feeling of fear, scammers may talk about an alleged attempt to write off your savings from your bank account, about taking possession of your real estate using a false power of attorney, hacking your personal account on a government services portal, or suspecting you and your loved ones of committing a crime. To be more convincing, scammers can send a scanned copy of a fake ID, imitate the sounds of a call center, and use banking or law enforcement terminology in conversation. The whole essence of their demands boils down to persuading money transfers of all available funds to the details they specified under the pretext of saving savings from theft. If the victim follows the instructions of strangers, then all his savings are transferred to the criminalssay the press service of the Government of Sevastopol.
In order to prevent such crimes, the Sevastopol police remind you that if you receive the calls described above, you must, while maintaining calm and critical thinking, immediately stop talking with the swindler. In order not to be subject to psychological manipulation on his part, avoid even short-term communication. In order to make sure that the stranger’s words are not true, we recommend contacting the duty department of the territorial internal affairs body by calling 102, where messages from citizens are accepted around the clock. Don’t let criminals get your money!
