Sevastopol police urge bike owners to keep an eye out for «two-wheeled friends». They often steal in the summer …
CrimeaPRESS reports:
In Sevastopol, cases of bicycle theft are periodically recorded, and in this regard, the police urge the owners of two-wheeled vehicles to take precautions.
After buying a bike, we recommend that you keep the technical documents and the cash receipt. In the case of theft of transport, they can serve as evidence in a criminal case. You should also write down or remember the number of its frame separately. To prevent an attacker from taking possession of your bike by deception and breach of trust, in no case do not give it to unfamiliar persons, including under the pretext of «ride».
You should not leave the vehicle unattended on the street or on the landing, even if the entrance door is locked and you leave for a short time. If you still need to leave, the bike should be fastened to a solid structure with a special anti-theft cable with a secure lock. It is worth noting that it is desirable to fasten the wheel and frame, and if the cable allows — for both wheels and the frame. In addition to the cable, it is recommended to install a bicycle alarm. When leaving the vehicle near the supermarket, if possible, place it in the field of view of the installed CCTV cameras. Do not leave removable equipment, elements of protective equipment, bags, backpacks and other valuables on it.
If your bike was stolen, you must immediately report it to the police by calling 102, indicate the crime scene (district, street, number of the nearest house), describe the signs of the stolen transport and report the frame number (if known). In addition, prior to the arrival of law enforcement officers, it is recommended to take measures to search for possible eyewitnesses of the crime, ask them to describe the intruders and wait for the police to assist in the search for the kidnappers.
The police of Sevastopol recalls that for the secret theft of another’s property comes criminal liability in accordance with Art. 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation «Theft». We also note that one of the main conditions that contribute to the commission of theft is the purchase of stolen items from intruders by unscrupulous citizens. Therefore, we warn that for the acquisition or sale of property knowingly obtained by criminal means, the perpetrators are criminally liable under Art. 175 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation «Acquisition or sale of property knowingly obtained by criminal means.»
