Sevastopol police warn: telephone scammers are “catching” you!

An 86-year-old local resident suffered from these illegal actions. In the afternoon, a stranger called the pensioner’s landline phone, introduced himself as a law enforcement officer and said that her granddaughter was the culprit of a serious accident, and money was needed to not bring her to justice. Fearing for her relative, the woman handed over 30 thousand rubles and an inexpensive mobile phone to the fraudster who arrived at her place of residence. After the transfer of material assets, the victim realized that she had been deceived and contacted the Department of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Leninsky district. Based on this fact, police officers have opened a criminal case under Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Fraud” and measures are being taken to identify and search for the criminals.
In order to prevent such crimes, Sevastopol police remind about the need to adhere to precautionary measures.
