Sevastopol repelled a missile strike last night. About how it happened and the consequences of the attack
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Sevastopol repelled a missile attack at night (from 01:23 to 01:53). The Ukrainian Armed Forces used NATO ATACMS missiles (with cluster warheads). The targets were shot down on the Northern side — missile debris fell in the area of Uchkuyevka and Simonok Street, as well as over the city itself — debris fell on Khrustaleva Street and Ostryakova Avenue. It should be noted that the UAV threat remained in the region until the morning. The enemy often uses the tactics of such massive strikes, but this time it worked out. Presumably, the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ targets were infrastructure facilities on the Northern side and in the Balaklava District, as well as the Balaklava Thermal Power Plant.
According to preliminary information, the downed air targets were filled with striking metal elements. Moreover, the «debris» that fell to the ground turned out to be not only debris, but also undetonated submunitions. Since the morning, operations have been conducted in the city to detect and transport them. Moreover, with maximum observance of safety rules.
That’s what reported at two o’clock in the morning, the governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhaev:
According to preliminary information, more than 4 aerial targets have already been shot down. In the area of Ostryakova Street, a part of a shot down missile fell on the lawn, breaking the power line. In the area of Khrustaleva Street, a part of a shot down missile fell on a pedestrian crossing. In the area of Simonka Street, there are fragments of a shot down UAV, on Pilipenko, on the roof of a house, there is also a part of a shot down UAV. On Morskikh Pechatintsev, there is a part of a missile in front of a house. On Neglinnaya, in the courtyard of a private house, there is a part of a shot down missile. According to information from people, there are reports of metal fragments falling on Romanova, Pobedy and Gorpischenko. According to preliminary information, the shot down aerial targets were stuffed with striking metal elements.
I remind everyone: do not approach the debris and parts of the downed missiles! Call 112 immediately. All city services are working in an enhanced mode. Information about victims has not been recorded at this time.
Since the night (and until now) the city has partially closed off Ostryakova Avenue. As Mikhail Razvozhaev explained, after examining the entire territory it became clear that many submunitions are lying in the green zone — in the grass and bushes. All submunitions are marked, but their removal will take more time.
Therefore, we have decided to extend the road closure period until approximately 16:00. I ask Sevastopol residents to choose detour routes in advance. I remind you that we have taken increased security measures for the duration of the operation to remove submunitions and part of the downed ATACMS missile.
An interdepartmental operational headquarters is also working on the site. They made a decision to destroy the ammunition and part of the missile on the spot, observing all necessary safety requirements. In simple terms, together with Vodokanal specialists, a place was chosen where there are no communications, a hole will be dug, and the destruction of part of the missile and submunitions will take place in it.
Residents have been evacuated from apartment buildings No. 219, 221, 223, 242, and temporary accommodation has been provided to all those who wish, but most have gone to work or to visit friends— the governor said.
There was also a lot of excitement and trouble on the North Side: after examining one of the houses on Simonok Street, it turned out that a high-explosive part of an ATACMS missile had fallen onto the roof of a 9-story building.
It broke through the roof and got stuck on the technical floor, so no one was hurt. While pyrotechnicians work to clean up the downed missile, a decision was made to evacuate people to a temporary location— noted Razvozzhaev.
In the morning, rescuers and pyrotechnicians worked on the site — the ammunition was taken to the landfill and destroyed. After a sleepless night, the residents of the building were able to return to their apartments.
The most important thing, we repeat, is that there are no casualties! There is no official data from the Russian Defense Ministry yet, city authorities report four enemy missiles shot down.
