Sevastopol resident Alexander Shalimov is the winner of the Russian Judo Cup 2023
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Sevastopol resident Alexander Shalimov (he also represents Crimea in the parallel competition) won the Russian Judo Cup 2023. The competitions took place on December 15-17 in Nizhny Novgorod at the North Star Sports Palace.
Alexander Shalimov (coaches Vyacheslav Amelin, Artur Vartanyan and Vladimir Shchelkanov) distinguished himself in the most prestigious weight category — over 100 kg. The Sevastopol resident had five fights and won all of them. In the final, Giorgi Khurtsilava from Moscow was defeated in magnificent style (with an amplitude throw).
All the opponents were strong and experienced, but that’s what makes judo interesting – you never know who will win, – Alexander Shalimov noted in an interview official website of the Russian Judo Federation. – The main thing is that I was able to defeat my main opponent — myself. In the final, everything was decided by the plan: I know how Giorgi fights, I watched our previous meetings and from the very beginning I stuck to my strategy.
In total, 371 judokas from 44 regions of the Russian Federation (249 men and 122 women) took part in the competition.
Crimea was represented by 5 athletes. The best result was achieved by Yuna Gerasimova from Kerch (she took seventh place in the weight category up to 48 kg).
