Sevastopol resident — combat veteran — awarded the medal «For Courage»
CrimeaPRESS reports:
There is such a profession — to defend the Motherland. Every day, dozens of men take an oath of allegiance to the Fatherland and selflessly stand up to defend their country. One of them is Vladimir Shelest with the call sign “Berkut”.
I am a Sevastopol resident who has devoted my entire life to military service. From 2014 to 2017, he defended the people of Donbass and took part in the liberation of Donetsk airport. When the Supreme Commander-in-Chief announced the start of the special operation, the phone rang at our house. My sister said that there are convoys of equipment in Armyansk. My wife and I looked at each other, I told her: “Well, it’s somehow dishonest, I defended Donetsk, and here…” And she told me: “I understood everything, when are you leaving?” We agreed that I would go in a month. But circumstances intervened, and I found myself in the special operation zone two days later. Served as a volunteer in the «BARS» detachment, — the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes Vladimir.
The man has eight awards on his chest, including the medals “For Courage” and “For Military Merit” and the St. George Cross. All of them have been received since 2014.
Each medal is a memory of my friends and the tasks that we carried out smoothly and efficiently. In particular, I was awarded the Cross of St. George in 2015 for carrying the wounded out of encirclement. The medal «For Military Merit» was awarded to me for the downed planethe man recalls.
Returning to his hometown, Vladimir Shelest turned to the Defenders of the Fatherland state fund. The fund’s specialists helped quickly prepare documents and receive a referral for treatment.
My wife told me about the work of the foundation. I came and it was as if I had entered another world: they offered me coffee and asked me in detail about the problems that I encountered when preparing documents and certificates. There are amazingly good-natured, open women who work there, whose husbands and sons are now on the front line. They helped me get a combat veteran’s certificate, apply for a pension, and get a referral for treatment for my hand after being wounded.says Vladimir.
Throughout the years of his service, the hero was supported by his family: wife, children, grandchildren.
I am a happy person, I have a large family: wife, daughters, four grandchildren. The eldest grandson is 13, an adult guy who already understands everything and supports me. Therefore, I will now finish treatment and return to the front line. I have someone to fight forsays the hero.
Let us remind you that military personnel are provided with about 15 federal and regional benefits and guarantees, including those received by participants in the special operation: official housing or compensation for rental housing, life and health insurance, credit and tax holidays, additional benefits and guarantees of constituent entities of the Russian Federation and others.
To enroll in military service under a contract, you need to prepare the following documents: autobiography and application form (the form is posted on the website), passport, military ID, education document, marriage and birth certificates.
The selection point is located at st. Kommunisticheskaya, 3a, phone: +7 (8692) 22-14-51.
