Sevastopol resident Yuri Kruglov conquered another eight-thousander

CrimeaPRESS reports:

The famous Sevastopol mountaineer has climbed the world’s second highest peak, K2 (Chogori). This is the fifth eight-thousander conquered by our «Snow Leopard»The news was reported by the Federation of Mountaineering and Rock Climbing of Sevastopol, its president is Yuri Kruglov.

Long-awaited super news! Yesterday, July 29, 2024, at 4.30 am, Yuri Kruglov climbed to the top of Mount K2 (8614 meters). This is the second highest mountain peak in the world. In the evening of the same day, Yuri Igorevich descended to Base Camp. Congratulations to our Sevastopol super climber Yuri Kruglov on his successful ascent! We are proud and waiting for you at home! — quotes the message «Sevastopolskaya Gazeta».

K2 was conquered only on the second attempt. Last year, Yuri Kruglov climbed only to a height of 8300 m. According to him, there was no need to rack his brains over which mountain to climb next summer: «Next July — K2 again. […] The mountain is worthy, interesting, and not boring.»

Yury Kruglov himself wrote very briefly about the new successful ascent on social networks:

Yesterday at 4.30 am I climbed K2. Met the sunrise. At 22:00 I returned to the base camp.

Among the most significant ascents of the Sevastopol climber are the oxygen-free ascent of Mount Cho Oyu (8201 m) in 2014, the summit of Manaslu (8163 m) in 2016, Dhaulagiri (8167 m) in 2017, and Everest (8848 m) in 2019. On each eight-thousander he conquered, he left the flag of Sevastopol.

K2 — Chogori (8611 m) is the northernmost eight-thousander in the world. It is located in the Baltoro Range on the border of Gilgit-Baltistan and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China, in the Karakoram mountain range northwest of the Himalayas. Chogori is known as the «Wild Mountain» due to the extreme difficulty of the climb.

There are 14 mountain peaks on Earth that are higher than 8000 m.
