Sevastopol residents can be vaccinated against measles

CrimeaPRESS reports:

More than 10,000 doses of measles vaccine have been delivered to polyclinics in Sevastopol. According to doctors, vaccination is the main method of preventing the disease, since you can become infected with a dangerous virus even just by being close to the carrier.

The disease is transmitted by airborne droplets, and the probability of infection is almost 100%. The disease itself is not particularly difficult, but it gives serious complications, primarily viral pneumonia, which is extremely difficult to treat, and there may also be encephalitis. Immunization is the main protection against the virus— the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes the chief freelance epidemiologist of the Department of Health Sergei Gryga.

The measles vaccine is administered twice in childhood: the first time a year, the second — at six years. Adults must be immunized before the age of 35 — if they have never been vaccinated against measles before, have not been ill with it or have no information about vaccinations, up to 55 years inclusive — if they are at risk, these are catering, healthcare, trade, public transport workers, teachers. In adulthood, vaccination is carried out twice with an interval of three months.

Also purchased about two thousand doses of vaccine for clean-up immunization.

Clean-up immunization includes persons who were not included in routine vaccination for one reason or another, and persons who refused vaccination. Annually, medical institutions conduct an examination of such patients, and they are included in the plan for its implementation.— Sergey Gryga notes.

To get vaccinated, you need to contact the reception of the clinic and take a referral to a therapist. Pre-registration is not required. The doctor will conduct a survey, collect the necessary anamnesis, measure blood pressure, saturation, temperature and issue a referral for vaccination.

Those who have been vaccinated against measles once can go to the polyclinic at the place of residence for revaccination. You need to have a passport, policy, SNILS with you.

The vaccine is used domestically, it has proven itself very well, there were no cases of complications after it. From the beginning of 2023 to the present, no cases of measles have been registered in Sevastopol— emphasizes the chief freelance epidemiologist of the Department of Health.

A contraindication for vaccination is a person’s poor health. The patient must be healthy, without signs of acute respiratory viral infections, allergies to vaccine components, primary immunodeficiency states, malignant blood diseases and neoplasms. Vaccination is also contraindicated for pregnant women.
