Sevastopol residents take the lead in the Special Olympics Unified Games

From 21 to 27 January, Kazan hosts the Unified Games of the Special Olympics. Special Olympics is a worldwide movement that organizes year-round sports training and competitions in various Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The Unified Games have become the largest and most versatile competitions under the Special Olympics program in Russia. They include eight winter and ten summer sports. The second day of the competition in Kazan brought the Sevastopol team two medals in standing long jump. Artem Nikulitsy won the silver medal and Dmitry Prokhorov the bronze. On the third day of the competition, Aleksey Zubanyuk was seventh in the running long jump, Yuri Nefediev was sixth in the 60 meters.

The coach of the regional branch of the Special Olympics said that the athletes are constantly improving and supporting each other.
The guys know their personal records and try to beat them. For example, today Yuri ran a distance of 60 meters 1.47 seconds faster than yesterday. They are very supportive of each other, shouting, clapping, meeting at the finish line and hugging , — says coach Svetlana Golovnya.
In total, more than two thousand special athletes from Russia and other countries take part in the Unified Games of the Special Olympics, they are held at 14 sports facilities. The organizers are the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, the Special Olympics of Russia, the Ministry of Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan.
