Sevastopol warns: remote scammers continue to steal money from gullible citizens
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Ignat Korshunov, Deputy Head of the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Sevastopol and senior assistant to the Sevastopol prosecutor for interaction with the media Marina Kuzmenko.
Ignat Korshunov spoke about a set of preventive measures that are carried out by the Sevastopol police to prevent remote fraud, and also noted that, despite the difficulty in solving this category of crimes, criminal investigation officers manage to detain accomplices of remote swindlers who steal money as a courier for pensioners under the “Your relative caused an accident” scheme. “People don’t fully understand what they are doing, they are led to make quick and easy money, and when they realize that they have become accomplices in fraudulent activities, unfortunately, it is already too late. Young people are detained, brought to justice, and in most cases the crimes are serious, so the result is the same — prison for many yearsthe policeman emphasizes.
A representative of the Sevastopol prosecutor’s office, Marina Kuzmenko, said that if there is information about the bank accounts to which victims transfer their money at the direction of the scammers, prosecutors file claims against the owners of these accounts. At the moment, claims have been filed for more than 1.3 million rubles and this practice will continue. In addition, when considering such criminal cases in court, prosecutors support civil claims by victims to recover damages from the perpetrators.
Our common task, both of the internal affairs bodies and the prosecutor’s office, is to carry out extensive explanatory work with the population. Well, the task of Sevastopol residents is to be as vigilant as possible and not fall for the tricks of scammers,” summed up Marina Kuzmenko.
