Seven dozen gullible Crimeans have become victims of online scammers over the past decade

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Over the past 10 days (from April 22 to May 1), 70 citizens became victims of remote scammers in Crimea. Half of the victims fell for the tricks of scammers who use social networks, instant messengers and Internet sites. Crimeans were “duped” with promises of easy money, they were “sold” necessary and cheap goods, they were borrowed from them under the guise of old acquaintances… More and more often, criminals are using Telegram for their schemes.

A resident of Simferopol told the police that an unknown person, using the Telegram messenger, under the pretext of selling a bumper and fenders for a car, took possession of the money.

A resident of Sudak reported that she received a message in the Telegram messenger from an alleged friend asking for financial assistance. Without hesitation, the woman transferred the required amount, and later found out that her friend’s account had been hacked by unknown persons.

A resident of Yalta wanted to purchase cinema tickets through one of the sites. Having entered his card details, he received a notification that all funds had been debited. Later, the man realized that he had fallen for the trick of a fraudster operating through a phishing site.

In addition, 32 citizens who suffered from the actions of telephone scammers contacted the police. The “schemes” here are not new, but, alas, still effective: calls “from the investigator” and “from the bank.”

A resident of the Leninsky district told the police that he received a call from an unknown person who introduced himself as an employee of the Investigative Committee. Under the pretext of protecting funds from encroachment by third parties, misleading the applicant, the attacker took possession of his savings.

A resident of Dzhankoy contacted the police with a statement and reported that the phone received a call from an unknown person who introduced himself as an FSB officer and, under the pretext of renting an apartment based on an advertisement posted on one of the websites, took possession of the applicant’s funds.

A resident of the Krasnogvardeisky district received a call from an unknown person via WhatsApp messenger and introduced himself as an FSB officer. Under the pretext of saving funds, he convinced the applicant to transfer money to a supposedly safe account. After the operation, the woman realized that she did not have access to the new account.

A resident of Simferopol filed a complaint with the police and reported that an unknown person called via WhatsApp messenger and introduced himself as an employee of a cellular company. Under the pretext of the need to update personal data for future use, he took possession of the applicant’s funds.

Another 5 citizens fell for the tricks of scammers — they followed links from an unknown source and installed malicious applications.

Crimean police remind you to avoid becoming a victim of scammers, you need to know the following:

– employees of any bank never ask for your card details (card number, expiration date, secret code on the back of the card), since they have your data;
– never tell anyone your passwords or secret codes that you receive in an SMS message from the bank; remember that only scammers ask for secret passwords that come to you in an SMS message from the bank;
– it is better to avoid telephone conversations with suspicious people who introduce themselves as employees of the bank, law enforcement agencies, do not be afraid to interrupt the conversation, just hang up;
– do not make an advance payment for goods or promised payment (service), make payment only upon their actual receipt;
– never transfer funds if your friend on a social network asks you to do so, perhaps scammers have hacked your account, first contact this person and find out if he is really asking you for money;
– on the Internet, do not follow links to unknown sites, you need to pay attention to the address bar of the site, the name of the site, whether there are any additional characters or names in the address bar, whether the site is located in the “ru” domain zone.
