«Sevparks»: the project for the development of the ancient estates of the Chora of Chersonesos in Sevastopol will be continued
KrymPRESS informs:
The Sevastopol public organization «Sevparks» has been landscaping and popularizing the ancient estates of the Chora of Chersonesus for more than 5 years.
From the once existing 250 ancient estates from the 4th century BC. no more than have survived to our times. Now the estates are scattered within the city limits, littered and forgotten. Despite the fact that such a history, where the ruins of the agricultural district of the ancient city (choirs) have been preserved in such quantity and scale, is unique not only for Russia, but also in the world. The task of the NGO «Sevparky» is to preserve and integrate cultural heritage objects into the urban environment, creating thematic park areas, holding cultural and educational events.
For 5 years of work on the Sevparks project, several squares in the antique style were created in the territories where the remains of ancient estates of the 4th-3rd centuries BC are located. A lot of work has been done to educate Sevastopol residents and guests of the city about the objects of cultural heritage and the ancient history of the region — lectures, excursions were held, a series of video tours was created, information stands were installed, and a cycle route was created. Modern technologies were even introduced — virtual and augmented reality modules for ancient monuments.
Thanks to the support of the Presidential Grants Fund, work on the project will continue in the 2023 year. The key cultural event of the project will be the annual (fourth) jazz festival at the ancient estate. There will also be a lecture hall with the participation of specialized specialists (historians, architects, culturologists), excursions will be held. Exhibitions are planned in street galleries of the city dedicated to the ancient history of Sevastopol and objects of ancient heritage.
Sevparks carry out such large-scale work in close cooperation with the museum community, Sevastopol State University and the Government of Sevastopol. Local residents are involved in the project. All events are open and free.
