Smoking and alcohol kill! A man died in Razdolnensky district because of an unextinguished cigarette butt

CrimeaPRESS reports:

The Razdolnensky District Court of the Republic of Crimea considered a criminal case against a local resident accused of committing a crime under Part 1 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing death by negligence).

The court’s verdict established that in February 2024, the defendant lived with her cohabitant in a dilapidated house. After returning from work, they began drinking alcohol during dinner, after which they had a conflict. Before falling asleep, the defendant smoked, throwing the cigarette butt on the mattress on which her cohabitant was already sleeping, thereby causing a fire, as a result of which the man died. At the court hearing, the defendant fully admitted her guilt in committing the crime and repented of her actions. She explained to the court that due to excessive alcohol consumption, she was not aware of her actions, which led to tragic consequences.— the court’s press service announced the details of the case.

The court, having examined the criminal case, taking into account the mitigating and aggravating circumstances of the case, found the defendant guilty of committing the said crime and sentenced her to ten months of imprisonment, suspended.

The court’s verdict has not entered into legal force.
