In Kerch, on the territory of the Butoma shipyard, a solemn ceremony was held to accept the Cyclone small missile ship into the Russian Navy. This project 22800 ship «Karakurt», capable of carrying the formidable «Caliber», is intended for the Black Sea Fleet. The Andreevsky flag is raised on the ship.
Today in the city of Kerch, at the shipyard. B.E. Butoma, a solemn ceremony was held for the admission to the Russian Navy of the small missile ship «Cyclone» and the hoisting of the St. Andrew’s naval flag on it. The ceremony was held under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov.— reported in the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
According to Yevmenov, the ship will strengthen the surface component of the Black Sea Fleet and will effectively fulfill the tasks for its intended purpose as part of the detachments and groupings of the fleet.
This is a significant event for the Republic of Crimea and the hero city of Kerch. Cyclone is the first warship completely built by Kerch shipbuilders in 25 years. I am proud that there are such specialists in Crimea who are capable of producing combat units that will serve our Motherland and perform combat missions. The labor collective of the plant makes a worthy contribution to the defense capability of Russia, always performs its work responsibly and conscientiously. Thanks to you, Cyclone and its crew are ready to perform combat missions to protect the interests and security of Russia as part of the Black Sea Fleet— in turn, said the Head of the Republic of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov.
For the Kerch shipbuilding plant, the Cyclone became the first warship in 25 years that passed the full construction cycle and a set of tests at the enterprise. Specialists of the 51st Central Design and Technological Institute of Ship Repair of the Russian Defense Ministry have begun developing repair, technical and service documentation for Project 22800 ships, which will reduce the cost of repairing new ships in the future.
Project 22800 small rocket ship «Cyclone» is a ship of the near sea zone with a displacement of about 800 tons. The length of RTOs is 67 m, width — 11 m, draft — 4 m. Cruising range — up to 2,500 miles, autonomy — 15 days. The main armament is one launcher of the 3S14 RK universal shipborne complex for 8 Caliber missiles, one AK-176MA 76-mm artillery mount, the Pantsir-M anti-aircraft missile system, two machine gun mounts.
