St. George Ribbon action: 100,000 ribbons will be distributed in Sevastopol until May 9

As part of the St. George Ribbon International Campaign, volunteers from April 25 to May 9 will distribute St. George ribbons in all districts of Sevastopol. It is planned to distribute 100,000 ribbons by the Victory Day. The action is implemented by the Sevastopol regional branch of the All-Russian public movement «Volunteers of Victory» with the support of the Government of Sevastopol. Today at the Memorial of the Heroic Defense of Sevastopol 1941-1942. gathered more than 100 representatives of volunteer and youth organizations of the city. The event traditionally unfolded a St. George ribbon 20 meters long. Veteran of the Great Patriotic War Mikhail Stepanovich Latokha took part in the opening of the action, the chairman of the Sevastopol regional branch of the all-Russian public organization «Russian Union of Veterans» Mikhail Ivanovich Anokhin, as well as guests and residents of the city made a welcoming speech.

Victory Day is a special holiday for our city, and the St. George ribbon is one of its main symbols. Therefore, we annually hold an action and distribute ribbons to residents and guests of Sevastopol, so that everyone can thus honor the memory of our defenders, express gratitude and respect to veterans and not allow anyone to defile the truth, rewrite history— the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes the Deputy Head of the Department for Youth and Sports of Sevastopol Marina Slonchenko.

Over 200 volunteers this year will distribute about 100 thousand black and orange ribbons for residents and guests of the city. Today it was possible to get the ribbon in the center of Sevastopol, and on May 1, from 11:00 to 13:00, volunteers will distribute ribbons in Verkhnesadovoe, Orlovka, Kach, Orlin, Ternovka and Inkerman, Balaklava, the central part of the city and in the area of ​​General Ostryakov Avenue. On May 6 and 8, volunteers will work in city parks, on the central square of Balaklava, on Zakharov Square and Malakhov Kurgan from 11:00 to 13:00. The action will end on Victory Day in the city center.

Today, one of the most anticipated actions on the eve of May 9 has started throughout the country and even abroad. The distribution of symbols of Victory allows everyone who wants to join such a significant event. By attaching a St. George ribbon to the chest, we show that we love our country and are proud of it— says the head of the «Volunteers of Victory» in Sevastopol Alexander Nikulina.
