State of emergency introduced in Kherson region

Emergency mode (ES) introduced in the Kherson region after the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station. According to the regional authorities and the Ministry of Emergency Situations, about 2.7 thousand houses in 15 settlements were flooded in the region. From 22,000 to 40,000 people are currently in the disaster zone. There are no dead. Seven people are listed as missing. Almost 1,500 people have been evacuated. The day before, the state of emergency was introduced only in the Novokahovsky district. Today it is all over the region. A lot of water descends in Novaya Kakhovka, but settlements located downstream of the Dnieper, in particular, the cities of Alyoshki and Golaya Pristan, were in the flood zone. In the latter, the situation is critical. Authorities estimate that 80% of the city has been flooded.
The settlement is already almost 80% flooded, in some areas water is almost reaching the roofs. In the main part of the city, the water level rose by about half a meter, it crossed the bypass road, and the neighboring settlement Molodezhnoye began to flood— said the head of the local administration Gennady Nedyalkov on the air of the TV channel «Russia 24».
According to Nedyalkov, the authorities of Hola Pristan plan to evacuate another 1,500 residents on June 7 due to flooding.
Also reportedthat in the coming days in the Kherson region, disinfection of territories will begin in order to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. Water samples have already been taken at water intakes and sewage pumping stations.
Kakhovskaya HPP collapsed yesterday, June 6, due to the constant shelling of the dam by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Investigative Committee of Russia opened a case under paragraph «a, c» part 2 of Art. 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (a terrorist attack committed by a group of persons by prior agreement and causing significant property damage and other grave consequences).
