State traffic inspectorate of Sevastopol: from December 1, cars must be “shod” with winter tires

In accordance with the requirements for the technical regulations of the Customs Union “On the safety of wheeled vehicles,” it is prohibited to operate vehicles that are not equipped with winter tires that meet the requirements of the law during the winter period, namely in December, January and February.
Winter tires must meet the following requirements:
- tires with anti-skid studs must be installed on all wheels of the vehicle;
- have a marked sign in the form of a mountain peak with three peaks and snowflakes, as well as special signs;
- The wear of the tread pattern of winter tires intended for use on icy or snowy road surfaces should be no more than 4.0 mm.
Among the fundamental innovations are requirements for the seasonality of tires. There is a ban on operating vehicles with studded winter tires throughout the summer (June, July and August). At the same time, during the winter period (from December to February inclusive), the operation of passenger cars of category M1 (passenger cars with no more than 8 seats excluding the driver’s seat) and small trucks of category N1 (weighing no more than 3.5 tons) without winter tires is prohibited. .
During the winter period (December-February inclusive), the operation of buses and trucks weighing more than 3.5 tons that do not have snow chains is prohibited. This does not mean that the chains should be installed on the wheels all winter, they just should be in the car in case of complications on the road.
According to Part 1 of Article 12.5. Administrative Code of the Russian Federation, driving a vehicle in the presence of malfunctions or conditions under which, in accordance with the basic provisions for the admission of vehicles to operation and the duties of officials to ensure road safety, operation of the vehicle is prohibited and entails a warning or the imposition of an administrative fine in the amount of 500 rubles.
The State Traffic Inspectorate of Sevastopol plans during the winter period, carry out raid inspections in order to identify vehicles operated in violation of current legislation. Particular attention will be paid to vehicles transporting passengers.
