Statistics: where Russians travel with children in the summer. Are they going to Crimea?

Russians often travel by plane with children under 6 years of age and teenagers aged 13-17 years, and by train they travel with children aged 7-12 years. This is stated in a study by a travel service Tutu, who analyzed data on purchases of air and train tickets for the period May-September 2024.

Sochi, Moscow and St. Petersburg are the most popular cities where Russians fly with children. The top 10 air destinations also included Kaliningrad, Mineralnye Vody, Makhachkala, Yekaterinburg, Tyumen, Krasnoyarsk and Ufa.

In Sochi, most people fly with children aged 7-12 years – 26.3%. With children under 6 years old — 24.9%, and with those who are already 13-17 years old — 23.4%. People with older children also fly to Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad more often – 15.5%, 9.8% and 8.8%, respectively.

On the contrary, they often fly to Mineralnye Vody, Makhachkala, Tyumen, Krasnoyarsk and Ufa with children under 6 years old, and to Yekaterinburg – under 12 years old.

People most often fly abroad with children to Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Belarus. In Baku and Osh — the most passengers are with children under 6 years old, in Yerevan and Bishkek — 7-12 years old, and in Minsk — with teenagers 13-17 years old.

Tutu analysts added that travelers have begun to use the booking service more often — it allows you to fix the price of an air ticket. They also buy tickets with the possibility of a 100% refund if the trip suddenly has to be rescheduled.

The top popular railway destinations are headed by Moscow, St. Petersburg and Anapa. The two capitals are most often visited by children aged 13-17 – 20.4% and 9.9%, respectively.

In second place are children aged 7-12 years, in third – up to 6 years. Children aged 7-12 years and children under 6 years old most often travel to Anapa — 8% and 7.9%, respectively. 6.4% travel with teenagers aged 13-17 years.

Next in popularity are Adler, Krasnodar, Rostov-on-Don, Simferopol, Novorossiysk, Sochi and Lazarevskoye. Children most often travel to Adler and Simferopol with children aged 13-17 years old, to Krasnodar, Sochi and Rostov-on-Don — up to 6 years old, and to Novorossiysk and Lazarevskoye — 7-12 years old.

According to Tutu analysts, the number of train ticket buyers on the app increased by 32%, and the share of train tickets purchased increased by 27%. Travelers are also increasingly looking at train reviews and ratings before deciding to buy a ticket. The number of users who issue a train ticket in advance and pay for it later has also increased.
