Street art festival from Tavrida.ART started in Sudak

CrimeaPRESS reports:

On September 9, in Sudak, as part of the celebration of City Day, the Street Arts Festival began, organized by Tavrida.ART (a project of Rosmolodezh). Crimeans and tourists will be shown more than 20 performances and shows for free, as well as a course of lectures on street art. Invited artists will decorate several walls on the main streets with colorful murals. The street arts festival was a gift for Sudak residents from the art cluster “Tavrida.ART” and the first event of this kind in Crimea.

Holding a street arts festival in Sudak gives our residents the opportunity to become more acquainted with creativity, and also introduces a certain cultural page into the life of the city. After all, not everyone can afford, say, to go to the theater. And now artists have come to our home and show street performances for free, and residents can experience the beauty right on the street. We were afraid that few people would show up on the weekend, but it turned out that adults and children were actively attending the performances. As for the murals, my opinion coincides with the opinion of the residents: they will decorate the city, make it more attractive and aesthetic, and remove, so to speak, the grayness from the facades of some houses,” commented the head of the Sudak city administration, Konstantin Podsevalov, on the first day of the Street Arts Festival.

On the first day, 9 performances from leading street theaters who came to Sudak from Moscow, the Moscow region, St. Petersburg and Voronezh are planned in the City Garden, the House of Culture, schools, on the embankment and the central square.

The city was filled with fairy-tale characters in fantastic costumes who entertained the audience with tricks on stilts, dancing, and humorous miniatures. At the same time, residents and tourists can become part of the performances, interact with the artists, and create a common holiday together.

Some of the theaters have already taken part in the Festival of Young Art “Tavrida.ART”, which took place in Kapsel Bay on August 17–21. Then only participants and spectators of the festival could see the performances of circus performers, clowns, mimes, and dancers. And now street theaters will create a festive mood for all residents of Sudak and guests of the city. Thus, the independent theater from Moscow “Trickster” returned to stage several performances. Today, theater artists will present an interactive promenade performance “Lukomorye”, in which unusual characters from Alexander Pushkin’s fairy tales will come to life.

Our festival introduces citizens to the culture of street theater, and the program includes all genres and representatives of this direction. This includes baby theater, circus performances, opera performances, fencing shows, jumpers and, of course, the fire theater as the brightest representative of the street art genre. There will also be promenade performances as a separate direction of street theater, so look for strange people and animals on the streets and parks of the city. The locations are also very diverse: the beach, stages, schoolyards, embankment, promenades, and city garden— said Maria Litvinova, producer, director, winner of the Golden Mask award, director of the Trickster Theater Company, program director of the Tavrida.ART street arts festival.

The program of performances is structured in such a way that you can get to almost any production; with rare exceptions, performances take place in parallel. Those planning to attend the festival are advised to study the program in advance and plan a route to the desired locations.

For all holidays in Sudak, a large cultural program is planned for residents and guests of the city. On September 9, 10 and 16, 13 street theaters will present performances and shows at various venues in the city, as well as on the Raketa and Academichesky embankments and beaches.

In the coming days, street artists invited by the Tavrida art cluster will begin painting several facades of houses on the central streets of Sudak. This is a unique opportunity for residents and guests of the city to see how murals are created. In their work, artists will include elements that reflect the cultural code of our country. The final results will be seen in a week — September 16th.

Also during the festival, from September 12 to 16, Tavrida.ART will hold lectures and master classes, at which invited experts will tell everyone about street art. The speakers will be specialists in the field of street art: architects, photographers, artists, researchers. And in order for residents and guests of the city to realize their creative ideas or simply spend City Day in an interesting and useful way, the art cluster organizes street art master classes for children and adults.

The street arts festival will end on September 16 with a concert by residents of the Tavrida.ART art cluster, who will perform their songs for residents on the Sudak embankment.
