Students of Crimea carried out work to improve the Military Cemetery in Simferopol

CrimeaPRESS reports:

70 Crimean students and schoolchildren carried out a labor landing to clean and improve the territory of the Military Cemetery, located on Starozenitnaya Street in Simferopol.

During the occupation of Simferopol, prisoners of war who were tortured by the Nazis in camps and prisons, as well as underground fighters and partisans were buried in the cemetery on Starozenitnaya Street. Buried on the territory of the cemetery are Soviet soldiers of the 51st and Primorsky armies, sailors of the Black Sea Fleet who died in 1941 during the defense of Crimea, Soviet soldiers of the 19th Tank Corps, the 51st, 2nd Guards and Separate Primorsky Army who died in 1944 during the liberation of Crimea from the Nazi invaders, as well as those who died from wounds in Simferopol hospitals in 1944-1945.

Since 1946, burials of disabled veterans of the Great Patriotic War who died in 1946-1950 have been held on the territory of the cemetery. In 1949-1951, 1967, reburials from the village of Sergeevka, parks and squares of the city of Simferopol, as well as reburials from mass and single graves outside the cemetery were carried out on the territory of the military cemetery.

Understanding the importance of preserving monuments, memorial signs, and mass graves in proper condition, student teams of the Republic of Crimea have been cleaning and improving its territory at the Military Cemetery since 2019. The labor landing is carried out as part of the Patriotic action “Victory Landing of the Republic of North Ossetia”, aimed at popularizing volunteerism and labor activity among school and student youth.

We proud take part in such an important volunteer stock. The improvement of the Military Cemetery is our contribution to preserving the memory of those who gave their lives for our country. We hope that such actions will stimulate young people to take an active civic position and care about preserving the heroic history of our Motherland. This year, on the anniversary of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Crimea from the Nazi invaders, we consider this more important than ever as a manifestation of unity for all Crimeans,” said Liana Unukovskaya, commander of the Victory Landing detachment of the RSO “Veter”.
