Suspect in series of frauds amounting to over 1 million rubles detained in Simferopol

Since April, the Simferopol police have been receiving complaints from local residents that a man, posing as a craftsman under the pretext of making furniture, fraudulently appropriated the applicants’ money.
As a result of operational and investigative activities, police officers detained a suspect, a 30-year-old resident of the Crimean capital. The man explained that he offered the victims services for the manufacture of kitchen furniture, received money to buy materials, and then did not contact them. In this way, the offender managed to deceive 11 citizens for a total of over 1 million rubles. He spent all the money he received on his own needs.— the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Crimea announced the details of the case.
Criminal cases have been initiated on the grounds of a crime under Part 2 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Fraud). The article provides for a maximum penalty of imprisonment for up to five years.
A preventive measure in the form of a written undertaking not to leave was chosen for the detainee.
