Swimming season officially opened in Sevastopol

CrimeaPRESS reports:

In Sevastopol, the swimming season began on June 15 and will last until September 15 — the corresponding decision was made by the City Government. In 2023, it is planned to work 26 city beaches. At the moment, work continues on their declaration at the State Inspectorate for Small Vessels. The safety of vacationers in places equipped for swimming will be ensured by more than 200 lifeguards, whose tasks include providing the necessary assistance both on the water and on the shore from 08:00 to 20:00. Of the equipment, 10 boats and 8 cars will be involved.

The analysis of the death of people in the water bodies of Sevastopol from 2014 to 2023 showed that all incidents that led to the death of people occurred in places prohibited for swimming, or on wild beaches in potentially dangerous places. Alcohol intoxication often became a fatal circumstance. In total, more than 80 people died during this period, more than 300 people were rescued by the rescuers of the Russian Emergencies Ministry for the city of Sevastopol and the Rescue Service of Sevastopol— noted in the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in Sevastopol.

From the above information, the conclusion follows: most often the death of people on the water occurs through the fault of the drowning people themselves, as a result of frivolity, overestimation of strengths and capabilities. The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the city of Sevastopol urges residents and guests of the region to follow the rules of safe behavior while relaxing on the beach and swimming in the sea!

  • exclude single exits to the beach;
  • if you do not know how to swim, do not go deeper into the water than waist-deep;
  • do not jump into the water from rocks, piers, boats and boats;
  • do not allow children to swim and stay near the water without adult supervision;
  • do not visit for the purpose of swimming a coast that is not equipped for recreation and places prohibited for swimming;
  • it is forbidden to use air mattresses and toys, car cameras for swimming;
  • it is strictly forbidden to carry out any activities on the water out of sight and without the provision of signaling, warning and communication means;
  • it is strictly forbidden to swim up to any ships — both moving and anchored, to flooded or partially flooded watercraft — this is deadly, especially when the sea is rough and the current is strong; moving boats create whirlpools, waves and tighten people floating near them under the propellers;
  • do not use rowing and motor boats, water bicycles and motorcycles in public bathing areas;
  • do not give false alarms;
  • do not use dangerous games in and under water — especially those related to the capture of swimmers;
  • do not swim behind the barrier buoys;
  • in no case do not swim in stormy weather;
  • do not enter the water while intoxicated;
  • in the water should be no more than 10-15 minutes.
