Tauric Chersonesus invites volunteers from all over the country to take part in a heritage preservation project

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Since 26 the My History Foundation and the Tauric Chersonese Museum-Reserve have been organizing the all-Russian project “Heritage Volunteers. Chersonese». It is being implemented with the use of a grant provided by the NGO “Russian Fund of Culture” within the framework of the “Volunteers of Culture” program of the federal project “Creative People” of the national project “Culture” with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Patriarchal Council for Culture. This season, the volunteers of the project will take part in excavations on the territory of St. Vladimir’s Cathedral in Chersonesos and in restoration work to restore it, in the office processing of archaeological material obtained in the southern suburbs of Chersonesos, as well as in landscaping the territory at the unique objects of the choir of the ancient city. In total, it is planned to carry out 10 shifts, of which three are provided for Crimeans and Sevastopol residents. The duration of one shift is days. The first one starts from 26 June.

The goal of the project is not only to help the museum-reserve, but also to make history alive for young people. After all, when you can touch the centuries-old cultural layer with your own hands and see the sacred places of our country with your own eyes, you begin to relate to it in a completely different way , — comments Ivan Yesin, director of the My History Foundation for the Support of the Humanities.

Over the previous two seasons, more than 400 volunteers from regions of Russia took part in the project. They managed to join several large archaeological expeditions and help researchers in large-scale excavations on the territory of the southern suburbs of Tauric Chersonesos.

The location of the project was not chosen by chance. Tauric Chersonesus is one of the oldest cities on the territory of modern Russia, a unique monument of the Antiquity era, a Byzantine city that has come down to us in a form untouched by subsequent developments. For the history of the country, as well as for the history of the entire Eastern Christian civilization, the significance of Chersonesos is unique. Here, in the tenth century, one of the greatest figures of Ancient Russia, Prince Vladimir the Holy, was baptized. His spiritual choice for centuries predetermined the vector of cultural and sovereign development of our Fatherland.

Every year we are waiting for volunteers from all over Russia with special trepidation. For us, this is a huge help, and for the guys — a unique chance to touch the holy land and leave a mark on the history of our state , — the press service of the director of the museum-reserve Elena Morozova quotes.

The project participants will be provided with accommodation at the archaeological base of Tauric Chersonesos, travel to and from the venue of the event, three meals a day and branded clothing. And in their free time, educational and discussion platforms, excursions around the Crimean peninsula, as well as performances and master classes by experts and guests of the shift are organized for volunteers.

The project was implemented using a grant provided by the All-Russian public-state organization «Russian Fund of Culture» within the framework of the «Volunteers of Culture» program of the federal project «Creative People» of the national project «Culture».
