Tauride Chersonesos organizes a holiday in honor of International Museum Day

On May 18, the museum-reserve will host a family celebration dedicated to International Museum Day, and the opening of the exhibition “Return to Chersonesos” will take place. By tradition, entry to the territory of the cultural institution on this day will be free.

2024 was declared by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin as the Year of the Family, so on May 18 in Chersonesus Tauride the holiday will be held in a special format.

Festive events plan:

11:00, 11:30 – interactive excursions “Treasures of Ancient Chersonesos” (by prior registration),
12:00 ‒ Quiz on the history of the ancient city (Byzantine courtyard of the museum-reserve),
12:30 ‒ Presentation of the book “Return to Chersonesos”
13:00 – The culmination of the holiday! A new exhibition will open in the temporary exhibition hall of the Byzantine exposition of the museum-reserve — “Return to Chersonesos”! The event is timed to coincide with the release of the book of the same name by the Bronze Horseman publishing house, which tells about the adventures of the ancient Greek boy Heraclides,
13:30 — 15:00 Sketch master class from the restoration artist of the museum-reserve and illustrator of the book “Return to Chersonesos” Polina Zhukova (Byzantine courtyard of the museum-reserve)
11:00 – 15:00 Interactive photo zone, face painting and food court, as well as a point of sale of souvenirs created based on the book “Return to Chersonesos” (Byzantine courtyard of the museum-reserve)

The book “Return to Chersonesos” was written by the head of the publishing sector of the museum-reserve, candidate of historical sciences Andrei Zaikov. Illustrations for it were created by the artist-restorer of Tauride Chersonesos, Polina Zhukova. It will be possible to meet and communicate with them and with the general director of the publishing house “Bronze Horseman” Andrey Tarasyuk (St. Petersburg) at the opening of the new exhibition.

For the first time in the history of the museum-reserve, the main character of the work — young Heraclides — will be present at the event! The boy, as if stepped from the pages of a book, will be waiting for everyone on May 18 to tell the story of “Return to Chersonesos”!

On May 18, visiting the exhibition “Return to Chersonesos” is free! Entrance to the territory of the museum-reserve is also free. We are waiting for you at a family holiday in Tauride Chersonese!
