Telephone scam courier called to account in Yevpatoria

The Evpatoria prosecutor’s office approved an indictment in a criminal case against a 30-year-old resident of the Saki district. He is accused under CC. 2, 3 tbsp. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“fraud”).
According to investigators, the accused served as a courier in a group of telephone scammers who called elderly residents of the region and informed them that their relatives or friends were responsible for road accidents. The attackers convinced the victims that they had to hand over money to compensate for the harm caused to the victims of the accident. The accused took this money from them. In total, the attackers defrauded 4 victims of about 640 thousand rubles in this way— reported the Crimean prosecutor’s office.
The illegal actions of the accused were stopped by police officers.
The prosecutor’s office sent the criminal case to the Yevpatoria City Court for consideration on the merits. In order to compensate the victims for the damage caused in the criminal case, civil claims have been filed.
