Temporary exhibition «Citizens of the Bosporus» is on display at the Kerch Museum of Stone Antiquities
CrimeaPRESS reports:
You can see the exhibits until April 14.
The temporary exhibition «Citizens of the Bosporus» opened in the Kerch Museum of Stone Antiquities.
The lists of citizens of Nymphaeum and Panticapaeum presented at the exhibition illustrate the polis character of the Bosporan cities, the most important aspect of which was the communal character. Epigraphic monuments give us information about the nature of the supreme power in the Bosporus. Honorary and dedicatory inscriptions containing the titles of the Bosporan rulers tell about the state structure — an inscription about the installation of statues of Tiberius Julius Sauromates. The highest virtue of a citizen is heroic service to the Fatherland and obedience to the law, therefore the protection of one’s state was both a right and a duty of every citizen— reports the press service of the Ministry of Culture of the Crimea.
Demonstrated swords, fragments of chain mail, sculptural fragments depicting weapons are evidence of the military battles of the Bosporan warriors.
The concept of «citizen», which originated in the period of antiquity and absorbed the main features of the democratic development of the historical processes of that period, has retained its essence to this day. Originating in the Greek policies and acquiring a special shape within the legal system of Ancient Greece and Rome, this concept continues to progress at the present stage, retaining its paramount importance.
Visit the exhibition in Lapidaria East Crimean Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve available until April 14th.
