The 370th anniversary of the Pereyaslav Rada was celebrated in Simferopol
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Today in Simferopol a solemn ceremony of laying flowers at the monument to Bogdan Khmelnitsky took place, timed to coincide with the 370th anniversary of the Pereyaslavl Rada.
The event was attended by First Deputy Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea Efim Fiks, Senator of the Russian Federation Sergei Tsekov, head of the municipality of the city district of Simferopol of the Republic of Crimea — Chairman of the Simferopol City Council Viktor Ageev, head of the administration of Simferopol Mikhail Afanasyev, deputies of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, deputies of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea, Deputy Governor of the Kherson region Tatyana Kuzmich, representatives of the public, the Black Sea Cossack Army and national-cultural communities of the Republic of Crimea.
This is the most important event in history, refuting the concept of modern Ukrainian nationalists about the eternal struggle of Ukrainians with the “Muscovites”. The Pereyaslav Rada is a symbol of the unification of the Orthodox people, the defense of the Orthodox spirit from the dictatorship of the European West. More than three and a half centuries ago, a choice was made between freedom and slavery, unity and fragmentationemphasized Mikhail Afanasyev.
In 1653, in the fall, a Zemsky Sobor was held in Moscow, which decided to include the left bank territories of the Dnieper into the Moscow kingdom. On January 18, 1654, in the city of Pereyaslavl, Hetman Bohdan Khmelnitsky convened the Rada — a meeting of representatives of the Ukrainian people — which decided to reunite Ukraine with Russia, secured by an oath of allegiance to the Tsar.
