The 3rd regional tennis tournament «Sevastopol Governor's Cup» is taking place in Sevastopol

On August 3, the III regional tennis tournament «Sevastopol Governor’s Cup» opened. The competition is held on the tennis courts of the sports and recreation complex named after the 200th anniversary of Sevastopol. The tournament is held on the initiative of the Sevastopol Tennis Federation and the deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Tatyana Lobach, under the patronage of the Governor of Sevastopol Mikhail Razvozhaev.

Tennis is chess played on a court. It makes you think and make decisions in difficult situations. And, of course, win. I am very glad that the number of participants in the tournament is growing: if at the first competition we had about 80 athletes, today there are already more than 200, despite the difficult situation. Let me remind you that even during the Great Patriotic War, sports competitions were held. For example, in Moscow in 1942, a tennis tournament was held, which showed everyone that, despite the fascist troops that had come very close, the city was living a full life. A year later, there was the Moscow Open Championship and the Women’s City Championship in besieged Leningrad. Athletes convincingly proved to the enemy that their cities were alive, that they were fighting and would never be broken. Hard times choose strong people. And now it is very important that you smile, play your favorite sport and make plans for the future. This time, in honor of the Year of the Family, not only individual athletes but also entire families are participating in the tournament. In total, more than 200 athletes are participating in the tennis tournament in the following age categories: girls and boys under 10 and younger; boys and girls under 13, boys and girls under 15; boys and girls under 17, adult amateurs — men and women 35 and older.

I had a big dream: for new sports facilities to be built in the city of Sevastopol, for our sports family to grow. I especially want to thank all the parents who bring their children to play tennis — it is very important to instill a love for sports! The Chairman of the regional public organization «Olympic Council of the City of Sevastopol», Honored Worker of Physical Culture of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vesyolkin emphasized in his speech that tennis is becoming an increasingly popular sport in Sevastopol.
