The 80th anniversary of the liberation of Balaklava was celebrated in Sevastopol
CrimeaPRESS reports:
On April 18, ceremonial events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Balaklava from the Nazi invaders were held in Sevastopol. The celebration began with the laying of flowers at the monument to the last commander of the defense of Sevastopol, Major General Pyotr Novikov, and the Obelisk to the defenders and liberators of Balaklava.
Dear residents of Balaklava, residents of Sevastopol! Dear veterans, today is a significant day for Balaklava, 80 years of liberation from the Nazi invaders. Balaklava gave the very impetus to our troops, after which Sevastopol was liberated. I want to wish you a peaceful sky above your head, so that what happened will never happen again! And our guys, who are now on the front line, are doing everything possible to prevent the worst events that could unfold in our territories. May God give us all happiness and health– the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes the First Deputy Governor of Sevastopol Alexey Parikin.
Deputy Commander of the Black Sea Fleet for military-political work, Captain 1st Rank Vyacheslav Vitold also addressed the veterans.
Warmest, sincere congratulations on the significant anniversary event — the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Balaklava from fascism. Those days are covered with glory, the glory of our Heroes. Mass heroism was observed then. Studying the history of those days, we see how brave our fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers were. And today the Black Sea residents look up to them. In fact, in 35 days, thanks to the brilliantly carried out Crimean offensive operation, the Crimean peninsula was liberated from the fascist invaders. And the day of the liberation of Balaklava became the beginning of the glorious liberation of Sevastopol and the complete expulsion of the Nazis from our land. I want to say a huge thank you for what you, dear veterans, did in those days. It was a difficult but heroic victory. It is difficult even now to realize what you had to endure in those days, what incredible will, courage and desire for Victory you showed. Today we, Black Sea soldiers, are taking part in a special military operation, being at the forefront of the fight against fascism in Ukraine. We do everything possible, emulating your exploits. Believe me, we will see our Victory to the end, we will defeat fascism and bring peace to our landnotes Vyacheslav Vitold.
After laying flowers, the chairman of the city Legislative Assembly, Vladimir Nemtsev, spoke.
Residents of Balaklava, dear residents of Sevastopol! On behalf of the Legislative Assembly and on my own behalf, I congratulate you on this significant day! Happy 80th anniversary of the liberation of Balaklava from the Nazi invaders. This is a significant historical event for the whole of Sevastopol. After all, it was with the liberation of Balaklava that the victorious march of the Soviet army across Sevastopol began. Of course, then, probably, hardly anyone could have imagined that today we would again have to take up arms and defend our land. Today, Sevastopol residents, including Balaklava residents, are courageously fighting with arms in hand against the same evil that our grandfathers and great-grandfathers fought against, and we are confident that our guys will finish what they started. And we will certainly support them in thishe says.
After the official and ceremonial part, the celebration continued with a cultural program at the Radost choreographic center. The day ended with a festive concert at the Fleet Officers’ House.
