The amount of Crimea's claim against Ukraine for the energy blockade may be higher than 5 trillion rubles

CrimeaPRESS reports:

The Crimean authorities preliminary estimate the damage caused to the region’s budget by Ukraine’s energy blockade of the peninsula in 2015 at more than 3 trillion rubles; this will be reflected in the lawsuit against Ukraine. A demand for compensation in the amount of more than 2 trillion rubles is also planned to be submitted from the Public Chamber of Crimea, said the Chairman of the State Council of the Republic Vladimir Konstantinov on air “Soloviev Live«

The amount of damage to the budget alone is preliminary estimated at more than 3 trillion rubles. A lawsuit is also being prepared from the Public Chamber — these are the people of Crimea, where the amount will be more than 2 trillion rubles. There will be more damage from businesses. There will be a very serious claim, probably the most significant in terms of blockades— quotes Vladimir Konstantinov TASS.

As the Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea noted, in 2015 the Ukrainian side expected to leave Crimea without power supply for three to six months. However, according to Konstantinov, Russia provided assistance to the peninsula during this period: in particular, residents of different regions sent generators for those living in the region, an energy bridge was quickly carried out, and the necessary power plants were built.

REFERENCE: Ukraine in May 2014, after the reunification of Crimea with Russia, unilaterally cut off water from the Kherson region via the North Crimean Canal, which provided up to 90% of the peninsula’s needs. In addition, in November 2015, electricity supplies to the peninsula were completely stopped. A state of emergency was in effect in the region until May 2016, and rolling consumer blackouts were applied. Kiev also cut off food supplies, banks stopped working, and transport links with the peninsula were disrupted. The situation improved with the launch of an energy bridge from Kuban across the Kerch Strait with a capacity of 400 MW. Then new networks were built, power units of the Balaklava Thermal Power Plant in Sevastopol and the Tavricheskaya Thermal Power Plant in Simferopol were launched.
