The Bank of Russia warns of a new fraud scheme with updated five thousandth banknotes
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Fraudsters have begun to use a new fraudulent scheme related to the “authentication” of updated five thousand banknotes, reports Bank of Russia.
Criminals operating under this scheme call Russians by phone and declare the need to check the authenticity of these banknotes, and it is proposed to check the banknotes through the Bank of Russia Banknotes application. Such an application really exists, but scammers provide a link to a fake one that looks similar to the official one.
After installing the application, scammers gain remote access to the victim’s phone and, accordingly, to banking applications and accounts. And they steal money from all the person’s accountsthe message says.
The present application “Banknotes of the Bank of Russia,” the regulator reminded, only provides information about the main security features of all Russian banknotes — where exactly they are located and what they should look like.
As part of another fraudulent scheme, criminals disguised as social service workers go around apartments and try to convince people to exchange old 5,000-ruble banknotes for fake “new” ones.
In fact, the updated banknotes are 100 and 5000 rubles. — are gradually coming into circulation. Old banknotes do not need to be specifically exchanged for new ones. Both will be in circulation simultaneouslythe regulator reminded.
The Bank of Russia also emphasized that for any banking questions you should call your bank.
The main thing: you should ignore offers to exchange or verify the authenticity of banknotes, do not install anything and do not follow links from strangers.
