A mine defense ship of the Black Sea Fleet searched for mines using an unmanned underwater vehicle
In conditions of a real mine danger caused by the activity of the Ukrainian side in mining certain sections of the coast and water areas, the Black Sea Fleet minesweepers carried out a reconnaissance search for mines along the routes of intensive commercial shipping in the Black Sea.
During the reconnaissance search, the crew of a mine countermeasures ship of the Black Sea Fleet worked out the procedure for searching for underwater objects in a single mine countermeasures circuit using the latest highly efficient hydroacoustic stations and a modern remote-controlled unmanned underwater vehiclereports the press service of the Southern Military District.
At the first stage of the search, the underwater object was discovered by the personnel of the combat post of the ship’s hydroacoustic station, then a remote-controlled unmanned underwater vehicle was launched into the water, the operator of which qualified the object as an anchor mine, after which the mine was freed from the anchor using a cable cutter, and it rose above the surface of the water, where it was destroyed.
Also, in order to practice countering threats from underwater saboteurs, the ship’s crew carried out preventive grenade launching both manually and using the DP-64 anti-sabotage grenade launcher.
