The investigation into the criminal case of an accident in Simferopol, which resulted in the death of a resident of the Crimean capital, is under the control of the head of the Main Investigation Department.

The Russian Investigative Committee is investigating a criminal case regarding a traffic accident that occurred on the night of September 8-9 on Kievskaya Street in the city of Simferopol, as a result of which the driver of one of the cars died (clause “a”, part 4 of article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) . It was established that a member of the Public Chamber of the Republic of Crimea (Oleg Shcherbakov — ed.) Drunk and driving a Volkswagen car, moving from Kuibyshev Square in the direction of Bespalova Street, he entered the oncoming lane, colliding with Daewoo Nexia and Skoda Octavia cars. As a result of the accident, all three were taken to a medical facility, where one of the victims later died.the circumstances reminded the Investigative Committee.

Taking into account the increased public response, the criminal case was accepted for proceedings by the Main Investigation Department of the RF Investigative Committee for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.

A member of the Public Chamber of the Republic of Crimea, suspected of committing this crime, was treated in hospital due to severe injuries. However, currently, as a result of an improvement in his health, the investigation is considering the issue of choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention for him.stressed the Sledkom.

A significant amount of work was carried out in the criminal case: all video recordings relevant to the investigation were promptly seized and studied, including the very moment of the traffic accident, cars were examined, and investigative experiments were carried out. The injured participants in the accident were recognized and interrogated as victims, eyewitnesses of the events, law enforcement officers who initially went to the scene of the accident, emergency medical doctors and doctors who examined and treated the suspect were recognized as witnesses, and forensic and auto technical examinations were ordered.

The Main Investigation Department firmly states that the reports that appeared in some media about the possible avoidance of criminal liability by the suspect due to his status are unfounded and do not contribute to a comprehensive and high-quality investigation of the case— stated in the Investigative Committee.

Currently, the criminal case is being actively investigated and all the circumstances are being established. The investigation of the criminal case is under the control of the head of the Main Investigation Department of the RF IC for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol V.N. Terentyeva.
