The Chekhov and Crimea Museum at the Omur Dacha will tell about the meeting between Anton Chekhov and Maximilian Voloshin

With the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Crimea, a new exhibition “He doesn’t look like his portraits…” will open on July 11 at 14:00 in the Chekhov and Crimea Museum at the Omur dacha. The exhibition project is dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the acquaintance of the great playwright Anton Chekhov and the poet, critic and artist Maximilian Voloshin, which took place at the Omur dacha at the end of February 1899.
Thematic sections of the exhibition will feature materials for the first time that demonstrate Voloshin’s deep interest in Chekhov’s works. From the collection of the M.A. Voloshin House-Museum, the exhibition will feature unique Voloshin watercolors, rare books, letters, photographs, phototypes of postcards with scenes from A.P. Chekhov’s play «Uncle Vanya» and much more. A separate thematic section will be dedicated to the poet’s widow Maria Voloshina and her acquaintance with «The Seagull of the Russian Stage» Vera Komissarzhevskaya.
The exhibition “He doesn’t look like his portraits…” can be visited from July 11 to August 22, according to the opening hours of the Chekhov and Crimea Museum at the Omur dacha.
Reference: The Chekhov and Crimea Museum on Kirov Street, 32 is an old mansion built in pseudo-Gothic style and belonged to the Ilovaisky family. The Omyur dacha (translated from Crimean Tatar as “Life”) was built in 1888 according to the design of the architect Ovsyanoy.
