The cruising regatta “Crimea Cup” in sailing started in Sevastopol
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Today, the largest and oldest cruising regatta of the Black Sea coast, the “Crimea Cup” 2024, started. This year the competition brought together 200 participants on 30 yachts in five qualifying groups. Racers from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Crimea, Novorossiysk, Taganrog and many other regions of Russia gathered in Sevastopol.
Sevastopol is a stronghold of the Black Sea Fleet, a stronghold of patriotism, and the fact that we host key sports and physical education sailing events year after year is a great honor and great responsibility for us— the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes the head of the sports department Sergei Reznichenko.
Over the course of two weeks, the regatta will gradually cover about 300 nautical miles along the southern coast of the Crimean Peninsula and return to Sevastopol.
Based on the results of the competition, the winners of all qualifying groups and stages, the winners of individual nominations and the winner of the main prize of the regatta — the Blue Ribbon of Crimea Cup for the maximum speed of completing the distance — will be determined. In 2023, this prize was won by the crew of the yacht “Aya”, captained by the President of the Sailing Federation Zubkov Valery Yakovlevich
Let us remind you that sailing is one of the basic sports in Sevastopol. The relevant department supports its development and takes part in organizing the sailing regatta. In 2015, the Crimea Cup regatta was given the status of an all-Russian competition, and in 2020 — an interregional competition. This decision made it possible to attract many amateurs and professionals from many cities of the country — Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novorossiysk, Sochi, Anapa, Arkhangelsk, Samara and others.
